RSB – Work Placement

Over the last couple of years we’ve done a fair amount of work for the Royal Society for the Blind; ranging from Guide Dogs to the Adelaide Rotunda, the subject matter is always interesting. This project was no exception, this young lady only lost her sight at the end of 2008. The way she has managed to continue with essentially the same standard of living is unfathomable, her mentality was very basic – let her loss of sight bring her down or learn to live with it and make the most of her life. As simple as that sounds, we doubt it would be that easy for most people to come to terms with such a massive life change. This is where the RSB does a brilliant job in supporting the vision impaired community.

St Peters Girls – Prospectus

We were privileged to be involved in the production of this year’s school prospectus alongside the talented team at Mitousa. Special thanks goes to our assistant Dave who spent the 3 days lugging lighting gear around the school! The girls were also fantastic to work with, here are a few highlights from the publication..

Royal Society for the Blind – Young Business Leaders Portraits

In May this year Lightly Salted was commissioned by the RSB to create portraits of the YBL participants. We were over the moon that they gave us creative freedom and allowed us to produce these punchy images with a little bit of attitude! Our main goal was to avoid the general corporate look and produce something more edgy and modern.

Wilderness Girls “Engaging Portraits”

So it’s been a long time since we blogged but we’ve been so busy setting up the new studio and working our way through the end of financial year madness that we just haven’t had a minute to pinch ourselves!

We’ll start off with a job that we completed a while back but was kept under wraps until the campaign began – Wilderness Girls School. What a beautiful experience it was, the girls were an absolute pleasure to work with – patient, confident and down to earth. Our brief was to create tight and engaging environmental portraits and we chose to focus strongly on expressions, nothing too OTT just good eye contact and that feeling that there is a story behind each girl – her past and her future. These 3 were our favourite’s from the campaign and the drama girl (with the stage light on the left hand side) recently won a Silver award in the APPA’s (Australian Professional Photography Awards).

Systembot – Justin Astbury

Saturday saw us out on the rooftop car park in Norwood shooting Systembot’s Justin Astbury. Aside from the chill in the air (what happened to Summer?) it was a great evening spent in good company. Very happy with far too many images (as per usual) so editing is going to be a very difficult task!

Here are a couple to give you a taste of what we got up to.

Lightly Salted STUDIO

It’s finally happened, we’ve seriously outgrown our roots (in fact we’re just about falling out of the tree house!) and will be moving in to our own studio on the 1st June 2009.

It’s an exciting time and we’ll be making sure we get all of you in to check the place out.

Check the website (which has also been updated since last we posted here) for the address and a rough layout to show what we’re planning.

Proper Australian Made

Austral (Clothes Hoists and Mailboxes) have been a good client for quite a while now. Recently they threw up the challenge of creating stand-out images of their rotary hoists in the landscape. We wanted to push the Australian theme a little so all 3 locations are within an hour’s drive of Adelaide. We had photographed the products on a prior occasion and hence were faced with the task of compositing them into background images. We went for a hyper-real effect to make the hoists stand out from their environs, no use having them disappear into the complex backdrop now is there?!

Enjoy – and support Australian made.

Nominated – International Photography Master’s Cup

We’re celebrating this morning as we landed a nomination in this prestigious world competition. We’re doubly excited as we only entered one image whereas most entrants have multiples!

Although we didn’t win, we think it’s pretty amazing to be nominated in such a massive global comp. We’ll be patting ourselves on the back all day.

The irony in this is that this image was never used for it’s intended purpose – it was a Government project that changed tack after this image had been commissioned and completed!

Commercial Work

Ok, ok..so it looks like all we’ve been doing lately is shooting puppies (yes, that’s not funny, we know!). We are actually sitting on a few commercial jobs that we can’t publish just yet as they haven’t been released to the world. Two of which we’re very excited about. The first being some absolutely gorgeous portraits of this country’s future – well, one half of it’s future. The other is a humorous promotion that will grow on you and drive the message home. That’s all we’re saying about that – mostly because we’re likely to embarrass ourselves if we keep spouting Dad jokes.

Here’s a burger to satisfy your hunger in the mean time.
