2009 SAPPAs – South Australian Professional Photography Awards

Monday, November 16th, 2009

We interrupt our usual schedule for this breaking news! At the recent SAPPAs, Lightly Salted was awarded 5 silver awards and came runner-up in the Commercial category. The overall standard of entries was very high and we’re proud to be mixing it with the best in the business.

Uluru a go-go

Saturday, October 10th, 2009

So our first day in the NT is over. Superb weather, a few dingo sightings and the first shoot in the bag..a beautiful sunset over Uluru to cap it all off. Couldn’t ask for better.

Yoohoo Uluru

Thursday, October 8th, 2009

Ok, so we get the concept of a blog! We’ve been super busy over the last few months (that time of year – pre and post budget months!) and have neglected this space. And now we’re going away for a week. Tomorrow morning the Lightly Salted crew will be heading North on a trip to Australia’s ‘Red Centre’, much of the time will be spent working on various projects but we’ll try and squeeze some holiday in somehow as well! We’ll only be gone a week so keep those jobs rolling in and we’ll get them sorted on our return (19th Oct).

In the mean time, here’s a brief update on what’s been happening. There’s more in the pipeline that we can’t publish just yet, and some exciting self-promotion work on it’s way to illustrate the rebrand and launch of the new studio. More on that later.

• This morning’s RSB “Dark to Light” fund raising walk

• Austral Clothes Hoist’s new range of packaging (shot in the new studio)

• Rundle Mall Future fashion parade, featuring Cassie from Australia’s Next Top Model

• Oxfam’s latest catalogue cover image

• Additional images from the St Peters Girls Prospectus shoot

Portrait frenzy

Thursday, August 20th, 2009

It seems the end of the financial year always brings on a frenzy of companies requiring new corporate portraits. Here are some recent images we’ve produced.

Pool-house (of note!)

Thursday, August 20th, 2009

When Linda of “Interiors by Linda Nolis” approached us with the brief to shoot a pool-house she had styled (and more) we were expecting a small out building with minimal facilities, by a pool. How wrong we were. This pool-house is the shizzle. Large upstairs bedroom with en suite and daybed, open plan kitchen, dining, living and an outdoors/indoors barbecue area are just the foundation of this creation. The outdoors shower is the icing on the cake and was very tempting to jump under on the cold nights we were there photographing. Obviously the first question was “when can we move in?”!

Also notable are all of the mod-cons dotted through-out the house, installed by the clever guys at the BeSmart Group.

Wilderness revisited

Thursday, August 20th, 2009

When we received the call from Wilderness for a new series of images for school publications we were over the moon to be going back to such a beautiful school (after the shoot for their advertising agency). The girls at Wilderness are so down to earth and willing to co-operate that working with them is a breeze. We came away with some real gems, here are a couple of examples..

RSB – Work Placement

Thursday, August 20th, 2009

Over the last couple of years we’ve done a fair amount of work for the Royal Society for the Blind; ranging from Guide Dogs to the Adelaide Rotunda, the subject matter is always interesting. This project was no exception, this young lady only lost her sight at the end of 2008. The way she has managed to continue with essentially the same standard of living is unfathomable, her mentality was very basic – let her loss of sight bring her down or learn to live with it and make the most of her life. As simple as that sounds, we doubt it would be that easy for most people to come to terms with such a massive life change. This is where the RSB does a brilliant job in supporting the vision impaired community.

St Peters Girls – Prospectus

Thursday, August 20th, 2009

We were privileged to be involved in the production of this year’s school prospectus alongside the talented team at Mitousa. Special thanks goes to our assistant Dave who spent the 3 days lugging lighting gear around the school! The girls were also fantastic to work with, here are a few highlights from the publication..

Royal Society for the Blind – Young Business Leaders Portraits

Wednesday, August 19th, 2009

In May this year Lightly Salted was commissioned by the RSB to create portraits of the YBL participants. We were over the moon that they gave us creative freedom and allowed us to produce these punchy images with a little bit of attitude! Our main goal was to avoid the general corporate look and produce something more edgy and modern.

Wilderness Girls “Engaging Portraits”

Friday, July 10th, 2009

So it’s been a long time since we blogged but we’ve been so busy setting up the new studio and working our way through the end of financial year madness that we just haven’t had a minute to pinch ourselves!

We’ll start off with a job that we completed a while back but was kept under wraps until the campaign began – Wilderness Girls School. What a beautiful experience it was, the girls were an absolute pleasure to work with – patient, confident and down to earth. Our brief was to create tight and engaging environmental portraits and we chose to focus strongly on expressions, nothing too OTT just good eye contact and that feeling that there is a story behind each girl – her past and her future. These 3 were our favourite’s from the campaign and the drama girl (with the stage light on the left hand side) recently won a Silver award in the APPA’s (Australian Professional Photography Awards).
